Introduction

A family-run hotel that is found in the green and sparsely populated Bjarnarfjörður valley, this 17-room establishment is found only three hours from Reykjavik. Well-situated for exploring the remote and magnificent wilderness of Strandir, possible day trips in the area include exploring the puffin colony on Grimsey island, exploring the waterfalls and hiking the mountains, trout-fishing, berry picking and cross country skiing in the winter.

The Museum of Icelandic Sorcery is a popular destination for those more interested in culture, as well as the ancient hot springs that are said to have healing powers after being blessed by Guðmundur the Good in the 13th century. A small hotel that was original built as a grammar school, the current owners of the hotel know the area well and are always happy to advise you on original and intriguing ways to spend your time in Iceland's fjords.

The hotel features a 25m swimming pool, naturally heated by the area's geothermals and an adjacent hot pool, which is a wonderful place to watch out for the northern lights in the winter. A cosy living room provides guests with books and TV and the hotel's art gallery displays annual exhibitions. The onsite restaurant serves traditional Icelandic cuisine in a bright and elegant dining room. The menu changes with the season and highlights some of the owner's home-cooked favourites, such as garlic roasted shrimp, Icelandic meatballs and crusty apple crumble.

You have a choice of en suite or shared bathroom.
