Culinary treats and spa indulgence

Located on the outskirts of Kiruna – served by our direct flights from Heathrow – Camp Ripan has smartly furnished cabins and a restaurant renowned for delicious Nordic cuisine. The hotel’s Aurora Spa has indoor and outdoor pools, an aroma sauna and ‘mountain stream’. Included in your holiday, you’ll enjoy a special evening of fine Nordic cuisine. Also part of your ‘feel-good package’, a session at the Aurora Spa comes with a complimentary Spa Bucket containing local products such as birch leaf body scrub and pine-scented body oil.

Winter activities at Camp Ripan
An exhilarating husky safari and a lesson in cross-country skiing are included in your holiday (add a Sami reindeer excursion if you opt for the four-night package). Snowshoes are also available for you to explore the snow-clad forests right on Camp Ripan’s doorstep, or to venture off on a quest for the northern lights. Camp Ripan is also conveniently located about a 10-minute walk to Kiruna’s shops and restaurants.

Visit the Icehotel
Kiruna is just a 20-minute drive to the Icehotel in the village of Jukkasjarvi. A guided tour of this seriously cool masterpiece – forged using thousands of tonnes of ice from the frozen River Torne – is included in your holiday. You will be enchanted by the ice-crystal chandeliers in the main hall and the exquisite, sometimes surreal, ice sculptures in the elaborate suites. The Icehotel even has a chapel for fairy-tale weddings and, of course, no visit would be complete without sampling a cocktail at the Icebar.

Itinerary & Accommodation

3 night itinerary
Day 1: UK to Kiruna
Fly on our exclusive direct flight from Heathrow to Kiruna where you will be met by a guide and transferred (approximately 15 minutes) to Camp Ripan. This evening you will be served a three-course dinner in the main restaurant. Overnight at Camp Ripan Hotel.

Day 2: Husky Safari and Aurora Spa
This morning, travel by minibus to a family-run husky farm in the remote and beautiful wilderness of the Kiruna Mountains. Mushing is easy to master and you will be given a full briefing on how to handle your dog team before hitting the trail. There will be two people per sled, swapping half way to allow both a chance to mush the dogs (please note you must be over the age of 16 to drive your own team of huskies). Once back at the farm, help unharness and feed the dogs before enjoying hot soup and drinks.

Returning to Camp Ripan early afternoon, you have a few hours to relax or perhaps take a walk into Kiruna, before your indulgent spa session at the Aurora Spa. You will be given a Spa Bucket containing a selection of wonderful self-treatment products, made using raw natural ingredients, free of preservatives, based on ancient Swedish, Sami and Torne Valley Finnish medical knowledge. Gently massage your face and hands with aromatic coffee scrub, treat your feet to a juniper-and-salt foot bath complete with massaging iron pellets, exfoliate with a body scrub of newly sprouted birch leaves and finish off with a relaxing body rub of pine-scented canola oil. You can mix and match these at your own pace as you move between the indoor and outdoor pools, mineral and aromatic saunas and ‘mountain stream’. Round off your sauna ritual with a glass of wine or a cool smoothie in the relaxation area.

Enjoy a three-course dinner at Camp Ripan’s restaurant. Later, if the sky is clear, head outside on a self-guided snowshoe walk on the lookout for the northern lights. It’s a great way to get away from the city lights and explore the surrounding area. Overnight at Camp Ripan Hotel.

Day 3: Icehotel Visit and cross-country ski lesson
Spend the morning visiting the world famous Icehotel. Here you will be able to join the guided tour at 10am or spend time exploring the spectacular interior yourself. Take a look inside the magical Ice Chapel and enjoy a drink in the Icebar, sipping cocktails or juices from ice glasses.

You will be transferred back to Camp Ripan for lunch before setting off again in the afternoon for a lesson in cross-country skiing. A guide will teach you all the basics, then you’ll practise your newfound skills on forest trails around Camp Ripan.

This evening, Camp Ripan’s Master Chef invites you to an unforgettable evening of great food and northern lights at the hotel restaurant. The menu is based on wonderful local produce from the Kiruna area and after dinner you can relax in the Northern Lights room to hopefully witness the aurora through floor-to-ceiling windows. Later, you can use snowshoes for another evening seeking out the lights. Overnight at Camp Ripan Hotel.

Day 4: Kiruna - UK
After breakfast you will have some free time before your afternoon transfer to Kiruna airport and fly back on our direct flight to London Heathrow.

After breakfast you will have some free time when you can hire snowshoes and cross-country skis or take a walk into Kiruna.

This afternoon, visit a Sami village in Ravttas, 20km from Kiruna and close to a mountain range. You have an opportunity to get close to the reindeer and feed them, learn about reindeer husbandry, traditional Sami lifestyles and how to throw a lasso. Climb aboard for a 5km reindeer sledge ride through the forest, before enjoying lunch by an open fire. Smoked reindeer meat (suovas) and traditional bread (gahkku) are often served (please request a vegetarian meal at the time of booking). This evening, you will be served a three-course dinner at Camp Ripan’s main restaurant. Overnight at Camp Ripan Hotel.
