The Icehotel

Itinerary & Accommodation

Day 1: arrive at the Icehotel
Fly to Kiruna via Stockholm and transfer to Jukkasjarvi or have a rental vehicle for the duration of your stay, handy for exploring the local area.Check in at the Icehotel for a 3-night stay. Speak to our Icehotel specialists should you wish to include a night in an Art Suite or Deluxe Suite during your stay.
Days 2-3: time at leisure
Spend your time as you choose, enjoying optional activities, such as ice sculpting, wilderness skills, fishing or the famous chef's table, or treat yourself to a sauna ritual or wilderness dinner. To avoid disappointment we strongly recommend you book your activities and excursions prior to departure. Days 4: depart Sweden
Check out of the Icehotel and transfer or drive to Kiruna Airport for the return flight to the UK via Stockholm. Or perhaps extend your holiday and stopover in Stockholm or travel to the Lofoten Islands in Norway.

Wilderness Dinner – Taste the Season

Taste the season with a delicious dinner experience in the woodlands. You will travel out by minibus or boat to a secluded wilderness camp with your guide. The northern most part of Sweden has 8 seasons, each with its own characteristics which inspires the exclusive three course dinner which is made and served by your guide.

Natures Pantry

Together with your Sami guide, you will travel out into the countryside to collect berries and plants that are available that season. You will learn about how they are used and about the actual plant. You will stop for a coffee break around an open fire before enjoying dinner at the restaurant with the ingredients that you have collected from the afternoon. Based on what you have found, the kitchen prepares and innovative or more traditional meal.

Chef's table on The Veranda

On arrival a drink is served and there is an opportunity to mingle with the other guests before taking your seat at the large wooden table. Two chefs from Head Chef Alexander Meier’s team will cook and serve an eight-course menu with accompanying beverages in front of you while you enjoy the food.

Midnight Sun in Jukkasjarvi

The 24 hour daylight is an incredible and characteristic for Swedish Lapland in the summer months! On this tour you will travel around Jukkasjarvi to different viewpoints where you will be able to see the golden midnight sun paired with the breath-taking nature. Your guide will tell you about the nature that is around you and why the midnight sun occurs.

Torne River Rafting

You will be given the full equipment before setting on a traditional river boat to the rafting boats. From here you will head downstream along the Torne River. Your guide will instruct you along the way through the calm and rough waters. You will make a stop at the island of Puonojokk where you will be served lunch over and open fire. Here your guide will talk to you about the history of the river before you carry on through the rapids and forests.

Challenge Park

The challenge park is a high rope course that features 6 different obstacles from rope bridges, climbing poles to a zipline that reaches the height of 16m above ground! The activity starts with a safety briefing where you will be given a helmet and a harness. Once you set off along the course, you are able to go at your own pace. You will walk between trees on ropes and logs as you slowly make your way higher above the forest floor.

Let’s go Hiking

Transfer by minibus to Aptas Mountain. From here you will start the hike through the alpine forest to the alpine tundra. You will see the landscape change the higher you get, the trees turn into shrubs and the view is vast. After about 1.5 hours of walking you will reach the top of Aptas, 615m above sea level. Here you will stop for coffee and tea over an open fire. You will have stunning views over Kiruna City. You will make your decent back to the minibus which will be waiting for you at the bottom.

Fishing Adventure

Fishing has always been an important tradition in Jukkasjarvi. On this tour you will get to try your luck at fishing, you will start with trying out the casting technique on land before getting in a wooden riverboat. Your guide will take you to the best fishing area and hopefully you will catch a grayling or a trout.

Wilderness Skills

You will be taught the right skills for surviving and navigating in the wilderness on this easy adventure that takes you deep into the Jukkasjarvi woodlands. You will be transferred by minibus in to the forest where your guide will talk about the nature around you and what is edible from the natures pantry to get energy and vitamins as well has how to create a shelter if the weather is bad. You will also learn how to start a fire with a flint!

Ice Sculpting

On site at the ICEHOTEL be guided by an expert, often someone directly involved in the building of the hotel or the decoration within, and learn how to fashion a small block of ice into your very own masterpiece. This is a truly absorbing activity and surprisingly entertaining. You may wish to think of your design ahead of the activity, so no time is wasted in planning and more fun time is spent with creating your piece of art. As sharp implements are used, the minimum age for participants is 13 years but for anyone above that, this is a highly recommended way to spend some time. And, the best sculptures are presented around the ICEHOTEL complex and at dinner that evening in the ICEHOTEL restaurant.

Sauna Ritual

In Swedish Lapland, the sauna is the heart of the home, a place for peacefulness, relaxation and meditation. Learn how to use the sauna like a Scandinavian with the Icehotel's ten-step sauna ritual, which includes an ice plunge (optional) and through cleansing of mind and body.
Included in the sauna ritual:
- 10 step Jukkasjarvi sauna ritual
- Sauna host guiding you through the sauna
- Wood-fired outdoor bath
- Ice plunge in the river (winter)/ river dip (summer/fall)

Wildlife and Nature Photography

As the Arctic day breaks, you will head into the wilderness to take photos of the stunning scenery and hopefully some wildlife. Your first stop will be a local bird feeding spot, here you will have an opportunity to familiarize yourself with the camera equipment before carrying on the search for larger animals such as reindeer, moose, ptarmigan and the arctic fox.
Whist out on the in the wilderness you will be given a hot drink.
