Type: Luxury lodge

Grade: Deluxe

Introduction

This contemporary lodge lying to the north of Kaikoura has 5 luxurious guest rooms and 5 treehouses with spectacular views of the Kaikoura Mountain Range.

An area renowned for the local cetacean populations, guests are encouraged to get out on the water in search of the whale and dolphins that make this area home. For the bird lovers, albatross encounters can easily be arranged and, if you simply fancy exploring the area under your own steam, the lodge offers complementary bikes for guest use.

Serving continental or cooked breakfast and a three-course dinner menu, the kitchen focuses on preparing fresh and local ingredients, such as fish, meats and seasonal vegetables, many from the owners' own small farm. There is an extensive all-New Zealand wine list, and a wide range of traditional cocktails, along with local and international beers and non-alcoholic beverages. The Lodge can accommodate most dietary concerns and advanced notification of ant requirements is appreciated.

Designed by a family of Kiwi architects, Hapuku Lodge and Tree Houses was created as a contemporary country hotel. The lodge includes four spacious suites, while the Olive House Suite is a furnished apartment that comes complete with kitchen, fireplace and open-plan bathroom. The tree houses are luxury establishments, sitting 10m above the ground in the canopy of a native Manuka grove. Each unit includes a TV, private bathroom, hairdryer, mini-bar and tea and coffee facilities.
