A unique alternative to Wellington's chain hotels, the 5 room Kapiti Nature Lodge is a comfortable, nature-inspired experience in one of the world's great conservation environments.
An internationally renowned nature sanctuary, Kapiti Island is home to many of New Zealand's native birds, forests and wildlife, both on land and in the water. Kapiti Island Nature Tours provide the only overnight stay and guided tour opportunities on the island and introduces to both this country's magnificent wilderness but also the culture of the local Maori iwi-tribe that runs the area. Kiwi spotting and bird watching tours are a specialty and come highly recommended.
When not exploring the island with a guide, guests are invited to enjoy the bubbling hot tub while enjoying the clear wilderness skies. Eating at Kapiti Lodge is a boisterous, family affair welcoming guides, relatives and guests to a buffet meal of fresh ingredients. Cooking makes use of local produce and kaimoana (seafood), the flavours of the land line the table each night. Special dietary requirements can be catered for.
Accommodation is divided between individual rooms in the lodge and a number of cabins, which are clean and function, each containing four bunks. A room with ocean views and en suite accommodation is available.
