Itinerary & Accommodation

Day 1: arrive Auckland
You will be met on arrival and transferred to the City of Sails. The rest of your day is at leisure.
Overnight: Sky City Hotel Auckland
Day 2: Auckland
Spend the morning exploring the delights of Auckland before enjoying a Wilderness Experience. You will head to the nearby Waitakere Ranges and admire the panoramic views from the Tasman Sea to the Pacific Ocean. Your eco tour which is led by professional guides will show you the abundance of Maori carvings as well as take you into the lush rainforest where you will hear native birdsong as you admire New Zealand’s famous kauri trees and giant ferns.

Day 3: Auckland - Bay of Islands (230kms)
This morning collect your Budget rental car and drive north along the coastal road to Paihia in the Bay of Islands, New Zealand’s only sub-tropical region. The rest of the day is at leisure to explore this stunning area. There are plenty of attractions and sites to visit including the Waitangi Treaty Grounds; New Zealand’s pre-eminent historic Maori site or set sail on a tall ship out in the bay.

Day 4: Bay of Islands
Today, enjoy a magnificent Bay of Islands “Hole in the Rock” dolphin cruise. Encounter an abundance of diverse mammals, dolphins and marine wildlife as you journey out into the Bay of Islands on a luxury catamaran. Your trip includes an island stop at Otehei Bay on the island of Urupukapuka. The rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 5 - 6: Bay of Islands - Orewa (250kms)
Today, make your way south to the township of Orewa, which lies on the Hibiscus Coast just north of the Whangaparaoa Peninsula and 40kms north of central Auckland. Spend the next two days at leisure in Orewa - an area famed for its glorious sandy beaches, unique arts and crafts and stunning vistas.

Day 7-8: Orewa - Coromandel Peninsula (230kms)
Continue to Whitianga on the Coromandel Peninsula, separated from Auckland by the broad Firth of Thames. Explore at leisure to experience the very best this wonderful region has to offer. The Coromandel is blessed with hundreds of natural hideaways, making it the perfect place to slow down and relax. Why not explore the Peninsula’s stunning coastline and native bush or enjoy a soak in the thermal springs on Hot Water Beach or a kayaking adventure at Cathedral Cove. Visit Coromandel Town, at the northernmost part of the Peninsula, which is home to wonderful restaurants, bars and local craft shops.

Day 9-10: Coromandel Peninsula - Bay of Plenty (165kms)
This morning, make your way to the harbour side city of Tauranga in the Bay of Plenty. Explore the cities nearby natural hot saltwater pools or admire the multiple historic buildings in the town. Cross over the harbour bridge that connects Tauranga to Mount Maunganui and visit the beach town famed for its extinct volcano. There are plenty of other excursions available to enjoy including a trip to White Island via helicopter.

Day 11-12: Bay of Plenty - Rotorua (75kms)
Drive south today taking the coast road deep into the active geo-thermal heartland of Rotorua. Spend the next two days enjoying your Rotorua Diamond Pass, which allows you access into many of the areas top attractions including the Agrodome, Skyline Skyride Gondola, Te Puia Thermal Park, Paradise Valley Springs, Rainbow Springs and the famous Polynesian Spa.

Day 13-14: Rotorua - Napier (225kms)
Continue your journey south-east to Napier, New Zealand’s Art Deco Capital, located in the heart of Hawke’s Bay wine country. Rebuilt in the early 1930s following a massive earthquake, the history of the city is enthralling. On your day at leisure why not visit the popular gannet colony at Cape Kidnappers or spend the afternoon at one of the many wineries of the region.

Day 15-16: Napier - Wellington (315kms)
Head south to New Zealand’s capital; Wellington. This small capital city which is only 2km in diameter, is nestled between the sparkling harbour and the rolling green hills. A fantastic base for shopping, arts and culture, heritage as well as home to New Zealand’s national museum Te Papa, Wellington has it all for the whole family.

Day 17: Wellington - Nelson
Today, drop of your rental car and travel on the InterIslander Ferry across the magnificent Cook Strait to Picton. Collect another vehicle and make your way to the town of Nelson. Renowned for its year round sunshine, boutique wineries and artistic community, Nelson is the ideal base to start your exploration of the south island.

Day 18: Abel Tasman National Park
Enjoy a day in the stunning Abel Tasman National Park with your Abel Tasman Cruise and Walk Open Day Pass

Day 19-20: Nelson - Kaikoura (245kms)
Make your way to the lovely seaside town of Kaikoura today, renowned for its Maori cultural experiences, whale watching and seal colonies. Enjoy a morning whale watching experience to see giant Sperm Whales and if you are lucky you may also see (depending on the season), Humpback Whales, Hector’s Dolphins or even Orca’s.
Overnight: Alpine View Motel
Day 21: Kaikoura to Christchurch (180kms)
Make your way a little further south to Christchurch.
Overnight: Quest Christchurch
Day 22: Christchurch and depart
Drop of your rental car today and head to the airport for your journey home.
