Introduction

Only opened in 2006, the Kirkenes Snowhotel now offers 20 rooms beautifully decorated with snow and ice.

Found in one of Norway's most isolated and beautiful areas near Kirkenes in the far north, the Snowhotel is a work of art that is rebuilt every year and is one of the most unique places to spend the night.

Every room is like a small treasure, with beds framed with ice blocks and comfortable mattresses with thermal insulation keeping guests warm at night. Each room is decorated with sculptures and works of art made from ice and snow. Despite the chilly air, with the thermal sleeping bag to keep you warm, many guests find a night spend in the Kirkenes Snowhotel to be incredibly restful, due to the silence of this isolated setting.

Before bed, a three-course Arctic is dinner, made of raw local materials prepared in traditional yet imaginative meals. The Icebar is exactly what it claims to be: a bar made entirely of ice and a marvellous place to sip fresh cocktails from a frigid glass. A number of activities are available for those staying at the Kirkenes Snowhotel, including northern lights excursions, husky dog sledding, snowmobile trips, cross country skiing, ice-fishing and show-shoeing.
