Introduction

The 30-room Igloo Hotel is situated in Sorrisniva, 20 kilometres from the town of Alta, in idyllic surroundings on the banks of the River Alta.

First created in 1999, this hotel is one of a kind and includes an ice-chapel, ice-bar and several lounges, all decorated with ice sculptures created by world-renowned ice-artists. The hotel's temperature is kept at a constant -4 and -7 degrees which is cool enough to be both refreshing and comfortable. Only open from mid-January to mid-April, the 2,000m≤ structure is rebuilt every year from the winter's fresh snow and ice.

The hotel's two restaurants feature regional specialties created from local produce, while the ice-bar is a charming, if chilly, place to enjoy a couple of drinks served in glasses made of ice. A modern building is found next door where hot showers and a sauna can be booked, while outdoor hot tubs are available for those who seek to enjoy the winter's night which may even include the arrival of the northern lights.

With reindeer leather and extra-warm sleeping bags in every room, guests commonly report having an especially good sleep. Days can be spent on a number of excursions, including snowmobile journeys into the wilderness.
