Aurora Safari Camp is located in the wild forests of the Rane River Valley 1 hour north of Lulea, the gateway to this region. The Camp is now in its third year and the inspiration of professional photographer Fredrik Broman.
The camp itself is an adventure. You are in the middle of wild woodland with darkness all around and away from artificial light making it perfect for searching the skies for the aurora. For the more adventurous there is complimentary use of snowshoes for walks in the surroundings or perhaps take to the trails on fatbikes, mountain bikes with really fat tires and great on the snowy trails.
Accommodation consists of 4 comfortable lavvu tents with beds, complete with warm duvets and fleece blankets and a heater to keep the air warm on cold winter nights. The outside temperature can range between -5C to -30C but the lavvus are snug and warm inside, and even warmer once you're inside the sleeping bag for a peaceful nights sleep.
Meals are taken in the large lounge laavu on site and included in your stay starting with dinner on your first evening and breakfast on the departure day. Further facilities include a shared eco-toilet and washroom which are about 30 metres away from the tents. Please note that showers are not available at the camp, but if needed they can be arranged at a nearby location. New for this winter is a sauna, at additional cost, a wonderful way to warm up after a day in the arctic conditions and using it the Finnish way means you are fully cleansed rather than needing a shower as we know.
