This thrilling wilderness adventure is the perfect way to experience Lapland's great outdoors as you 'mush' your own team of huskies through the beautiful forests of Jukkasjarvi. Action packed throughout, you’ll enjoy snowmobiling and sleeping in a rustic wilderness lodge, before finishing with a night at the Icehotel. With luck you may even see the magical northern lights, completing what will already be an unforgettable adventure.
Who for? this is the ideal trip for those who enjoy active adventures and the great outdoors
This holiday allows you to be more than a passenger as you experience the exhilaration of driving your own team of dogs through the snow covered forests of Swedish Lapland. The 'whoosh' of the sledge runners on snow and the panting of the ever-eager huskies are the only sounds you will hear across the beautiful, silent landscape. It is only when the sledge stops that the silence is broken by the sounds of the dogs eager to be on the move!
Whilst sledging, remember to be on the lookout for Arctic wildlife and the tell-tale signs of footprints in the snow - possibly even spot a moose! And at this latitude, when the skies are dark, keep your fingers crossed for an appearance of the northern lights.
On arrival you will transfer to the Mushers Lodge for dinner and an overnight stay. The next morning you’ll have an introduction to the dogs and an expert briefing before setting off on the trails through crisp, sparkling wooded landscapes.
On this trip participants are thrown in at the deep end - with an airport transfer by sledge to the Mushers Lodge. This time just as passengers! The longer trip also follows forest trails but extends to higher ground, weather permitting. As the longer trip spends an additional night at the Wilderness Lodge and obviously covers further and more varied ground, it is suited to participants with a higher level of fitness.
This is 'home' for one or two nights depending on your chosen trip. The overnight accommodation is bunk-bed style, in shared rooms or cabins. It's pretty rustic with no electricity supply but thankfully it's heated! There are basic washroom facilities, a wood sauna and an outside toilet. Staying out in the wilderness, away from any light pollution, is a great opportunity to see the northern lights, so be on the look out. More about the aurora »
On the penultimate day of the trip, say farewell to the dogs and exchange paw power for horsepower, arriving in style at the Icehotel by snowmobile. In contrast to the Wilderness Lodge, the Icehotel is a magnificent construction and an architectural marvel. The final night will be spent at the Icehotel after you’ve had a guided tour and perhaps a warming vodka cocktail in the icebar.
Following a longer and more difficult trail, on this 6-night tour participants are responsible for their own team of 3 to 5 dogs including feeding, harnessing and settling them overnight. A good level of fitness and previous experience of sledging is required. Contact our team for details.
Note: this holiday is not suitable for families with young children. Sledging days can prove demanding especially on arms and shoulders so these trips are unsuitable for children or those without a good general level of fitness. The 6-night tour covers a longer and more difficult trail and is aimed at those who have previous experience of sledging. Our Lapland Specialists are on hand to discuss which trip might be best for you.
